Grant's really keen and I'm willing to toss some money in the hat. What's the holdup? Throw us a bone every now and then. What can we do?

Hi Kevin,

I have been watching the DotNetNuke website Map Project and there doesnt seem to have been any further word on the new version apart from the posts below. I do appreciate the fact that you have been extremely busy with the release of your other products.

I would appreciate it if you could please provide an update on this though as I have people depending on me to provide a solution to their mapping problems.

Thank you for your assistance with this it is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Grant

Actually, things are moving along and will come to completion within the next two to three weeks. The GoMap version, while it provided a great conceptual aspect of dealing within maps required a large set of changes to meet the demands of a more universally accepted module. This requirement basically means that the handling of the profile information for map plotting needed some revision.

Two main aspects of the system needed some special attention due to the upgrades to both DNN and Google Maps API. The DotNetNuke Map will provide a much more flexible architecture - while supporting any Mapping API (not just google), so we are hard at work on getting everything up to beta. The second slow down was a dramatic shift in the handling of profile information. This change, as well as some new functionality provided by google lets us gain a bit more control over the latitude and longitude handling as well as a free geocoding service within the Google API!

In any case - things are not dead, but rather - very alive. I also expect to release a final version of our GoMap module which includes the Google API 2 support and a number of bug fixes (including the new handling of profile information from the X.3 architecture of DNN.

I happen to know that Kevin has been working diligently on a first release of this module which represents a substantial upgrade to the original goMap. Were it not for a greatly deserved personal vacation, we would see this a little sooner... but I am personally assured that we should see a release ( likely a release candidate ) by the end of August. Thank you Kevin!

Kevin,

I have to agree with Grant on this. Please inform us!

I think my personal bottom line is: will there ever be a GoMap v3 or not?

I sincerelly hope that it will come out (hopefully soon) but if the GoMap is not fitting in your schedule anymore than please inform the community. A lot of people are waiting this product without any feedback on their questions!

Again, please inform.

Marc

It will definitely come out, the difficulty has been sustaining enough time through each work week to keep up with demand. In fact, the Dotnetnuke:Map project as well as GoMap have been under serious development over the last two weeks, but have not come to completion as other priorities keep setting it aside for a day or so and then back on. We are definitely nearing completion on both fronts and will update everyone upon its release.

I'd love to - but I have had many issues wrapping up the project lately due to other pressures. There are basically just a few days of development left to complete which includes the testing and PA completion of the Dotnetnuke:Map product. I am also trying to wrap up the GoMap final release in that time period, but I am not certain. I can say it is very very soon.

I am pleased to announce that GoMap 2.8 is now released. With version 2.8, GoMap now supports DNN 4.5 and the examples that ship with this version have been updated to work with DNN's new profile structure, introduced in DNN versions 4.3 and 3.3.

You may get the latest version of GoMap from our DNN site, or through Snowcover.

Hi Eric,

Can you explain the relationship between GoMap 2.8 and the core Map project - does this have any affect? We are crying out for information - I don't know whether I should give up on the core one and implement 2.8 and hope the upgrade path is easy when/if it comes out?

Thanks

Hi all,

The main goal in releasing GoMap 2.8 was to provide both support for DNN 4.5.1, as well as a direct upgrade path for our users to the Dotnetnuke Map project. The details of upgrading from GoMap to core Map will be delivered with the final release of the core project, so rest assured that we will provide a path to migrate a solution based on the latest GoMap release to core Map when that comes out.
